Here is a tutorial on how to image a Dell or Microsoft surface computer. Note that this will wipe any data from the computer, so make sure to save anything you do not want to lose.

If you are imaging a Dell computer, first boot into the BIOS to make some changes. Without these changes, the computer will not be able to boot. Press F2 when the Dell splash screen comes up, and before the computer enters windows 10 setup.

If it does enter setup, just reboot and try again. This is not the setup we want.

If you are imaging a Microsoft surface, you can skip down to Step 6.

BIOS settings: (If desired, you may refer to the articles made listing the exact BIOS configurations for the specific computer you are building.)

  1. boot sequence
    1. Select UEFI as the boot list option.
    2. if you don't have options for Onboard NIC(IPV4), step 2 should fix that

  2. System config - Integrated NIC
    1. check the box to enable UEFI stack - this allows the computer to access the image that we configured.

  3. disable optimus setting - this is a video setting that sometimes causes problems with laptop displays. Disregard for desktops.

  4. wireless control - Make sure the computer can be controlled with WLAN radio. if you're imaging a desktop, this will not apply.

  5. WOL (Wake on LAN) - this setting allows the computer to be woken from sleep remotely. Set this for all types of computers.

  6. Exit the BIOS and enter boot menu
    1. For Dell computers, press F12 on the Dell splash screen.
    2. For surfaces, starting with the computer turned off, hold the volume down button, press and release the power button, then release the volume down button when the surface splash screen comes up.
    3. Select Onboard NIC IPV4

      1. You should get a pop up on the top left corner of the screen saying media is present. It'll have three lines of text. If not, there's something wrong with your ethernet connection.
      2. After that, this screen will pop up. Hit enter. If you walk away before hitting this, the screen will time out. If that happens, just reboot and hit F12 to start over.
      3. You'll get a progress bar that will probably take a while to load.

  7. Welcome to the task sequence wizard..... This will pop up after the progress bar finishes. There is no password, click next

  • Make sure to select the image you want - Currently, it will say Windows 10 Baremetal. Click next

  • double click OSD computer name to set it. Click next.

  • This should do it. If it errors or restarts, it's normal.. unless it never finishes imaging. If it get stuck on a screen saying please wait for a long time, you might have to start over.
  • This process might take an hour or so.
